I'm sure there was a book that predated the TV show as well. A pretty simple and familiar premise, certainly, but when you take into account that this show was made in the early 90s even before Toy Story, you can see how Old Bear Stories has been influential. It follows the story of a group of living toys who have adventures inside a house. ![]() It is a truly wonderful show that makes you feel warm inside every time you watch. ![]() ![]() My children's book "What Does a Princess Really Look Like?" came about when my daughter asked me to draw her a princess. "synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title. Perfect for fans of The Paper Bag Princess and Do Princesses Wear Hiking Boots?, What Does a Princess Really Look Like? challenges gender stereotypes showing girls it's not how they look but what they do for others that matters. In his debut children's picture book, Mark Loewen tells an important story that celebrates girl power and moves us to value the courage, determination, kindness, assertiveness, and "smarts" over beauty. Chloe learns that her imperfections make her uniquely who she is. In the end, Chloe's dads help her understand what princesses are not: Perfect. "When you know what you want, not much can stop you." But you also need to tell people when you are feeling frustrated."Ĭhloe learns that princesses are smart, kind but assertive, brave, strong and determined. "Inside of our head is where our smarts are," she says to herself, " And this princess is very smart."Ĭhloe discovers that her power is not in how she looks, but in how she can affect others. She quickly realizes that princesses are more than just frilly dresses and tiaras. In this story, Chloe sets out to craft her very own princess. In the tradition of Not All Princesses Dress in Pink and Princess in Black, What Does a Princess Really Look Like? breaks many old princess stereotypes. ![]() ![]() She was the only child of Thomas and Dovey Eggleston. The diggers in Babylon were a _little_ more careful, but only a little. I was wincing through his whole description of Schleimann's burrowing through the mound of Troy - while he looked for "interesting" things and gold, he was destroying huge amounts of data on the other cities and cultures that had inhabited the same place. There were also some interesting sidelights on matters - Ceram's attitude towards the early history-hunters (not archaeologists, the ones who were just looking for neat stuff to take back to their countries) is interestingly in-between their own attitudes and how things are thought about today. Interesting book! I learned some things I hadn't known, and details about things I had known. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm glad I'm one of the few that picked up the book for what it was about and knew nothing about Ester.
